EZ Recipe—— Preparing Items for that Rust Look !!

Items to Rust: safety pins, tags, wire, jingle bells,

( have taken a hanger twisted around so it would fit any
christmas tree topper I wanted to put on it)

Ingredients: 1 pint Hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup apple cider Vinegar (not white vinegar)
2 tablespoons Salt (any table salt will Work)

Note: Ingredients vary based on the amount/size of items you want to
rust – I normally double the recipe which gives you enough to
rust items in a smaller plastic disposable container

Optional: Matte Finish Spray, nutmeg, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, fine glitter

1. Place Items of your choice in plastic container or bowl big enough for overspill. This
concoction will bubble and surprise you so be sure to place newspaper. or papertowel under
the container and area you are working on
2. Pour items such as safety pins, tags, wire, etc. in container ( steps 1 & 2 can be reversed)
Note: This is when the mixture will start to slowly bubble!
3. Mix thoroughly with spoon & rinse the spoon immediately to ensure no one uses it
4. Leave in mixture for anywhere from 4 hours to 4 days…. you will see results in approximately
2 hours if not sooner
5. Stir Items as neccesary ( I normally wait 24 hours )
6. Place Items on paper towels after they reach that rusty look you are waiting for. Once they are
placed on paper towels for drying at which time they will continue to rust
7. Spray Items with matte finish spray and throw them into plastic/paper bag filled with the scent
of your choice ( nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, etc. )

Note: Step 7 is not neccasary however, gives your product a nice prim look!

Also you can always place your items outside for a few days, keeping them damp with
water to make your items REALLY rusty! Items left outside sitting in a little water
and turned occasionally after using this recipe
This recipe promotes the rust process by breaking down the elements of what your trying to rust
Happy Rusting you’ll find all kinds of things that are new to make old…..Lisa
